Hon. Mary E. Montgomery
Judge Montgomery was elected to the Common Pleas Court Bench, General Division, in November 2018 after serving nearly 21 years as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney with the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office. During her tenure with the Prosecutor’s Office, she served, among other positions, as a Supervising Attorney at Care House, prosecuting felony crimes involving physical and sexual abuse of children, as well as a Trial Supervisor, training and managing trial attorneys on multiple judges’ criminal dockets. Judge Montgomery then served as Chief of the Civil Division, where she and her staff represented the County and all its departments and agencies, as well as the elected officials, in various administrative and civil matters, including civil defense litigation.
Judge Montgomery graduated summa cum laude from Ohio University in 1994, receiving her B.A. in Political Science. She received her Juris Doctor in 1998 from the University of Dayton School of Law.
Judge Montgomery is a member of the Dayton Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Dayton Lawyer’s Club, the Carl D. Kessler Inn of Court, and the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association. She is currently a member of the Common Pleas Court Case Management Committee, Technology Committee, and Court Security Committee, as well as the Criminal Law and Procedure and Court Technology Committees for the Ohio Judicial Conference.
Judge Montgomery is admitted to practice law in the United States District Court, Southern District of Ohio, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
She is also a volunteer for various community organizations.
